Pendelton Saddle – Jake Barnes Teamed up with PRCA heeler Boogie Ray

In September 2003, 7 time PRCA World Champion Team Roper Jake Barnes, teamed up with

PRCA heeler Boogie Ray to win the coveted 2003 Pendelton Round Up team roping title. The Pendleton Round Up is a unique rodeo because of the grass arena. This slippery feature adds a unique degree of difficulty and makes this a coveted win for professional rodeo cowboys.

The saddles awarded in 2003 were custom built by Severe Brothers Saddlery located in Pendleton, Oregon. Severe Brothers Saddlery was founded in 1955 by Bill and Duff Severe and is known internationally for producing the finest in custom handmade western saddles, bronc saddles and roping saddles. Jake’s 2003 award saddle is numbered 3091 and, according to Severe Brothers Saddlery, is one of 250 award saddles they have built for the Pendleton Round Up.

Jake Barnes has acquired two Pendleton saddles in his long professional career. The other saddle can be seen in his display at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs. In 2014, Jake’s horse fell with him on the slippery grass arena and injured Jake’s knee. At this point in Jake’s career he has nothing left to prove as every rodeo fan knows he is one of the toughest competitors and a true champion in every sense of the word. Jake has said that he will not be returning to compete at the Pendelton Round Up. His 2003 saddle is a very unique piece of rodeo memorabilia as it is the last Pendleton saddle awarded to Jake Barnes, it is truly one of a kind.
